The name of our new school, East Ridge Community, was approved by school trustees at the Board meeting on Tuesday, February 21st.   Our next step will be determining the mascot and school colours for our new school.  The former OSCVI is now under renovation in preparation for the amalgamation of students from Bayview and Sydenham in September, 2017.

The season of mud has come early to Sydenham.  A reminder to parents of kindergarten and primary students  to ensure that an extra set of clothing is sent to school in backpacks.

A sincere thank you to Bridey McCartney and the planning team who organized Electives during the month of February for students in grades 4-8.   These days were a huge success!!!  More details below.

As we move into the month of March, we look forward to Science Fair, the March Break, French Concours and numerous field trips.

A reminder that School Community Council will be meeting on Wednesday, March 8th in the Core French Room, room 7 at 6:30 pm.

Electives  in February 2017

The 2017 elective program was a huge success!  Students were able to choose from a number of activities including skiing, snowboarding, swimming and skating.  After learning the basic skills and strategy, chess tournaments and curling bonspiels took place.  In super science, students made goo and key chains, they also participated in body zorbs and trained for space in the gyro gym.  The cooking elective featured a pasta dinner, salad and yummy brownies.  Students made a stuffed animal of their choice in the sewing elective.  Thank you to all staff, students and community members who made this a great experience!

Our Hats for Homes fundraiser continues to be successful, for the month of February, Mme Kuhl and Mr.Avery's class helped Sydenham raise $160.00. It was decided that this month's charity would be Wes For Youth, a local organization created in the memory of Wes Cameron by his parents. Wes suffered silently from depression and was unable to reach out for help. Please visit for more information.

Winter School Bus Safety Tips

·         Allow extra time to get to your bus stop.
·         Wear bright clothing so the bus can see you in the early morning and late evening.
·         Stand away from where the bus stops. Buses need extra room to stop when there is snow and ice.
·         Dress properly. Winter clothing, hats, and boots will keep you warm.
·         Don´t play in the snow while waiting for the bus. Don´t throw snowballs at the bus or anyone else.
·         Don´t slide on the snow or ice patches in driveways or on the street. You could slide under the wheel of the bus and get hurt.
·         Don´t push or shove around the bus. Someone could fall down on the ice and get hurt.
·         Hands should be kept to yourself at all times while riding on the bus. Fighting and picking on others creates a dangerous bus ride.
